Commitment to Sustainability

How it began

Fanco have been on a journey for a while, focusing on different ways to make a positive impact on our community, society, and the environment. In 2022, we began transitioning 100% of our ceiling fan range to sustainable packaging, i.e. being recyclable, biodegradable, or compostable.

As a company, we always value feedback and like to meet the needs of our end-users. So, listening to the market, we incorporated innovative features such as user-replaceable LED panels into our products, which minimise waste into landfill and are cost-effective. We also introduced hard-wired wall controllers, compatible with DC fans to provide a tactile solution.

We proudly support Habitat for Humanity through donating products for all their builds in Victoria and South Australia, as well as participating in volunteer days. We have also partnered with Nightingale Housing since its creation and worked through several projects that feature Fanco products.

The Idea

About three years ago, we started thinking, what’s next? What else can we do that is innovative, designer, but also benefits society and the environment at large? So, our first step was to invest in understanding the bigger picture. We partnered with an engineering firm to review materials suitable for ceiling fan construction, assessing their environmental impact across the entire lifecycle. This process allowed us to compare all the options in detail.

This is where it all started – we knew this was where, if we revolutionised the process, we could truly reduce the impact on the environment, not just the fans we make, but change the way everybody makes fans.

Revolutionising and Leading with Sustainable Innovation

With the help of our engineering firm, we discovered the environmental benefits of some materials over others. Once we decided on the materials we would use  – FSC ® 100% Certified Timber Blades and Bio-Based Motor Housing – the next challenge was to seamlessly integrate these materials without compromising the visual design and style that have always defined our products.

These challenges only spurred us to innovate further, resulting in a fan that not only looks stunning but also contributes to a more sustainable future. The Gaia Fan is proof that sustainability and style can go hand in hand, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in design.

Today, we’re extremely excited and proud to share with you the EarthFirst range, an immensely thoughtfully designed ceiling fan range that has environmental responsibility at its forefront.

So, what is so unique about the Gaia?

The FSC ® certified Solid Timber blades use a transparent, water-based, non-toxic paint coating which minimises processes like electroplating and powder coating, reducing the overall carbon footprint of the fans

To showcase a ceiling fan designed with both people and the planet in mind, we knew it had to be introduced to the perfect audience. That’s why we proudly unveiled it at the prestigious Archify Live event in Sydney on 26th September, putting our innovation front and centre for industry professionals and sustainability enthusiasts alike!

Sneak Peek into The Gaia Launch Event!

At the event, we not only introduced the Gaia fan but also shared Fanco’s sustainability journey—from our shift to sustainable packaging, to our product innovations, and the development of the EarthFirst range. The feedback from professionals and sustainability advocates was overwhelmingly positive with many genuinely impressed by the combination of cutting-edge design and environmentally responsible manufacturing.
